Better option than directly from Sears
By E. Eldridge
I ordered this as a replacement for my old Craftsman mower deck that had rusted through. It was about $50 cheaper than going to Sears directly. It showed up in a timely manner. I had a few problems getting all of the components off of my existing mower, but eventually got everything put back together except for one part. The only complaint that I had was that one of the 4 holes that holds the vortex baffle did not line up. It deviates about an inch from the original. Since I don't know if that was a change made by Sears or whether this OEM version is off, I can't really deduct more than one star for that.

Pleased With The Purchase.
By D. Harris
I bought this mower deck housing to replace the OE deck housing on my 16 yr. old Craftsman lawn tractor. A weld had broken, and it was rusting away at the discharge chute, so rather than spending money to have it re-welded, I decided to replace it. I was able to find it on Amazon, which after S/H was still $11 cheaper than Sears base price before shipping. As is custom with my previous Amazon orders, it arrived ahead of the projected earliest delivery date. I had to wait to re-build the deck because I had also had to order a couple of other parts, from Amazon as well, and they were shipped from different locations. But only 2 days.It took me a about 3-4 hours to re-assemble the deck completely, but partly because I did not take photos of where and how everything went together on the old deck, so I was trying to remember how it went back together. I also wasn't rushing, as I wasn't pressed for time then. Everything went back on correctly, with the only real "work" being the self-tapping screws on the mandrel guard which protects the exposed side of the left-hand side pulley. I'm afraid I can't speak to the issue pointed out in a previous review about the vortex baffle, since I had removed that from the old deck 2-3 years ago and did not try to re-attach it, partly because the bolts and nuts are now completely rusted together. If I do try to attach it, I'll update this review to confirm or refute the other review.I should point out that this deck housing also apparently fits Husqvarna and Poulan mowers, too.. There are some drilled holes that do not have anything corresponding to the Craftsman pieces and parts which attach to the deck. I assume there are parts unique to these other brands which these holes accomodate, but for me they're just un-designed vent holes.Really, the only reason that I can't give this 5 stars is that I can't say yet whether this housing will be as durable as the one it replaces. The old one took a pounding over the last 15 years, because my 1.5 acres is 75% mowed field that was never properly landscaped, so it's really bumpy and uneven. But so far, based on the first time mowing with it, everything looks good to this point.
