Kingston memory is nice because of the lifetime warranty. Pieces do go bad once in a while, but generally we have hundreds of units of Kingston here and they are solid performers. If it does go bad, getting a replacement is never a problem. Stick with a name brand and get the best service too!

Apple charges you $200 to upgrade your RAM, but you can do it yourself for about $50. I bought this RAM for both my MacBook and our CEO's MacBook, and it's been running like a champ. Don't waste your money buying your RAM from Apple (unless it's a MacBook Air/Retina, in which case you don't have a choice as the RAM is soldered to the logic board) and buy this RAM for your MacBook Pro instead.

I needed extra memory on my workstation to run virtual machines and this did the job. I would love to purchase another 8gb in future but will wait until goes on sale.
