The trade-off

I had been considering buying a short shifter for some time, and had looked at several brands. The B&M shifter comes assembled already, and is essentially plug and play; a quick change when the transmission is out for the clutch, etc. I had some difficulty getting the shifter back into the housing after removing to add gear oil, but it eventually just plopped in.Performance-wise, it is excellent. It removes almost all of the slop from the shifter and has excellent shift-feel. I can confidently say that I will never miss a shift with this shifter. It amps up the fun in a daily driver, and would also be an excellent addition to a track or performance-oriented car.It is however, not without trade-offs. The OEM shifter is two pieces with a rubber joint that absorbs vibration. Without that, the shifter tends to vibrate more and can be noisy when the drivetrain is under heavy load or at high RPMs (I've only had noise issues from time to time under heavy load, i.e, 35 mph in 4th gear. I've only read about noise at high rpm, never experienced it.)Overall, I think that it is well worth the money and well worth the trade-off. My next car will also receive a B&M shifter.
