Product Description
The PRO-TECH 8505 Battery Powered Commercial CO Monitor features include an electrochemical sensor, continuous digital display, peak level memory, duration and time of peak level, TWA readout, sensor life monitor, and manual backlight.
CO levels are sampled and recorded every 5 seconds by a state-of-the-art electrochemical sensor. CO levels detected from 10-500ppm are automatically displayed. When a chronic CO level of 30ppm or more is detected, a flashing Red LED and 85db pulsating alarm are activated.
Pressing the reset button temporarily mutes the audible signal while the CO level is rechecked. If the monitor continues to detect CO levels of 20 ppm or more, the audible and visual alarm signals will reactivate automatically within 5 minutes. If CO levels drop below 20 ppm, the alarm signals will not be reactivated.
The highest CO level detected (from 10 to 500 ppm), the duration of the peak level, how long ago the peak occurred, and the average CO level detected for the previous 8 hours can be displayed by pressing the memory button. An internal clock monitors the sensor life and activates visual and audible expiration signals after two years.
The Pro-Tech 8505 Commercial CO Monitor complies with OSHA and NIOSH exposure limits. Backed by a one year limited factory warranty.

It's okay

I bought this from Amazon about 2 years ago. I was concerned that our relatively new house might have carbon monoxide issues. Since the alarm never went off, and rarely showed a number over 0, I felt good that the house is safe. If you buy this, know that the warranty is for one year. Also know that after 2 years, the "carbon sensor" will begin to fail, and that the manual states it's not responsible for monitoring beyond the first year. So if you need a long-term monitor, this will need yearly replacement. (And for all I know, all of them need it, too.)

We had a few HVAC people come through, and one poo-pooed our "Home Depot" special detector; which was at end of life anyway. While he did not recommend this product (he was trying to sell his own services), it was close enough to what I thought would satisfy the requirements he offered. We installed this and ran it for a few weeks before our system was upgraded, and I monitor it periodically afterward.It has a weekly display, so you can see the worst of the past week. It's good to see those numbers, but bad that if you wait eight days between inspections you could lose data.I knocked one star off for the price, though I haven't really focused on a comparison with similar products---so maybe 1/2 star for my lack of research. I could knock a star off for the "check weekly" need. I suppose together they add up to one star off. Any product I rate that is four or five stars I would buy again. If you don't mind about the price or the weekly check, feel free to round up to five stars.
