Where, oh where, does it end?All at once, I am three times divided. I am of the Moors, and of the Goths, and of the Spaniards. Stately, so they say. But it is utterly inelegant to be divided thusly. I am one, but of three, and working ever outward toward eighteen separate ends.I was born not of womb but of palm and fist, handforged and handmade, brought forth from nothingness into iron and glass. From a young age, all and sundry could see my fate had arrived alongside me, pre-sealed, ready-made with a look of sophistication. Intricate metal scrollwork and gentle shades - this is not the material of the hard labourer toiling in the field. This is not the tough stuff of the tanner, nor the mettle of the coal miner. I was soft and dainty and never intended for out-of-doors.Soft and pale and gently radiant, apparently bound for a brighter future of higher purpose, even though I've a style predisposed to the country or cottage. Still I was promised an imperial finish. And so I waited, but for what?Here's 12 feet of wire and 8 feet of chain with which to hang yourself. Raise me up, hoist up the Candella Scavo shades and hold me higher still in your esteem. Look at me, all stately and heavy and high above your heads. Tell me, what would you have done if you'd inherited the same obligation?So where, then, does it end? At which rightful place must we arrive in order to finally know it is done? At the end of the empire, of course: we must find the imperial bronze finish. Much like real candles, my eighteen ends will extinguish, 120 volts coursing through no more. The death of incandescence brings with it my eternal sleep.Overall a great purchase.
