Beautiful Chisels

Just bought this set based on a favorable Fine Woodworking review and because it seemed to me to be the best trade off between quality and price. The tool steel is beautifully and fully polished and no further honing is needed to get going. My test of whether a chisel is ready to go is that it should be able to shave hairs off your arm. These did. The leather case is also quite nice although it seems like it would be cramped for 12 chisels. I'm looking forward to putting these to good use on some dove tails and will probably add a few larger sized chisels.June 2009 update - I subsequently bought a set of Two Cherry skew chisels and a 1.25 inch bench chisel. These, while similar in overall quality to the original set, were not as finely honed as the original set. However, they did hone up quickly.

Pretty steel, rounded over edges!

I bought the polished set, but the individual who polished my set rounded over every single chisel. You will have to grind 1/8 inch off the end to get to the flat to make a sharp chisel. Also be prepared to use a heavy duty thinner and elbow grease to remove the coating on the polished set. It is almost as hard as the steel.If money is important (and when isn't it?) buy the unpolished set. It hones up fast and you will save money. If money is no object, buy Lie-Niesen bench chisels and Ashley Ilse mortise chisels. You will be very happy indeed with those products!

When it comes to chisels that carry the freight and are not just for show and tell, there is no competition for Two Cherrries chisels. Granted the steel is a little more difficult to sharpen, but they hold their "hone" (pardon the pun)Every chisel that I can use in my shop is Two Cherries.
