Magnaflow 15042 & 15043 on 1998 K1500 Silverado
By Spencer
The Magnaflow 15042 & 15043 Tail Pipes are awesome! I have them installed on my 1998 K1500 Silverado. It's got a 5.7L Vortech approaching 200k miles. These pipes are coming out of a Flowmaster Super 40 series 2.5" dual in/dual out muffler- the sound produced from this set up is amazing! I have a friend with the same motor in his 1994 Camero, but he has long tube headers & 2.25" straight pipe all the way back. Sure it's loud and marginally better performance not having ANY obstruction, but it is just that... LOUD. My set up, having the stock manifolds, cats, and 2" pipe up to the muffler- he and I both agree it is a MUCH better 'performance' sound over his. I do have plans to get some headers with 2.5" collector, match all the pipe with 2.5", and probably eliminate the cats all together. Until then though, I'm very pleased! From what I was told, the install took about 8 clamps, 8 hangers, and a small piece of additional pipe. The stock pipe going into the stock muffler was only 2", so adapters were needed.All-in-all: $80 for the muffler, $83 for the pipes (Amazon offered an instant 25% off Magnaflow products at the time of buying), $65 in hangers/clamps/pipe/adapters, $60 in labor to install. Total of around $288. I've patiently waited for everything I wanted to come down to the lowest price I could possibly wait for. Very inexpensive upgrade that really opened up the sound of my truck. I will probably add chrome tips at some point. Another $40, but the better look is worth the price.
