The heavy select hardwood post and base of this coat rack and accented with hand-carved with shells and acanthus leaves. The post is supported by four feet that lead into a stepped base. There are four large hooks in antique brass finish for hanging coat, scarves and hats. Some assembly required.

Coat Rack

Attractive piece of furniture, quality wood with fine details. Heavy base prevents tipping over. Lots of compliments about its good looks and sturdiness.Packing a bit cumbersome, lots of styrofoam and tape. Yet everything was there and no bangs, nicks or scratches.

I like the coat rack. They do not mention the top portion swivels, so that means it is a 3 Piece unit. It Is Made in CHINA. I was under the impression it was made in the USA, It Is Not! Other than that I may have been able to find it elsewhere for a lot cheaper because of it.Buyer Beware. Pure China Product.New Buyers Beware...Alert 11/2/11 UPDATE...Unit is Splitting!!! The Center Post has a silver dollar size of cracking, spider cracking like a windshield going in all directions. Then 3 inches from that defect a crack that is the width of a toothpick then it tapers to a the thickness of a hair going towards the end that screws the to the actual base.It has never tipped, or fell over, nor even over loaded. There is no reason for it to start to crack and crumble away, unless they used junk wood with bugs inside it, then covered it with this nice Mahogany Veneer?I wish I could return it to Amazon for a new one? Maybe the Amazon reps will read my post and do the right thing and send me a new one and I will gladly send this back in the same packaging as the replacement unit would come in. I do spend a good amount of money with Amazon year in year out.Thanks

Powell 520-274 Coat Rack

I received the coat rack today (13 Nov 2012) which was a week earlier than the estimated delivery date. The item was exceedingly well packed. However, some hardware parts including several screws to attach the hooks to the upper post were missing. Also, some wood dowels for the base were missing. These dowels help mate the parts of the base together and make the rack steady. Further, 2 of the 4 pads that protect floors from scrapes were broken off the bottom of the base. One broken-off pad left an exposed nail that would have gouged wood floors. I removed the exposed nail and the 2 remaining pads and substituted felt spacers on the bottom of the base. I also had to add some felt to the base joints in order keep the rack from rocking back and forth. I am somewhat handy with tools and had the needed screws, pads, dowels, and felt materials to complete the assembly. It certainly wasn't worth my time to request and wait for the missing parts. Also, on close inspection, pieces of the base seem to have had cracks repaired. But these wood repairs aren't readily visible and don't impact the very good overall usefulness and appearance of the rack. Despite what I have said, all in all I am satisfied with the product. But if I was an apartment dweller with limited handyman skills and few hardware supplies, I probably would feel differently. The coat rack now seems sturdy and doesn't have a tendency to tip over when clothes are hung on it.
