Nice solid Hitch

This hitch is OK, but is a little lacking in a couple of areas. Overall the build seems to be substantial enough to do the job and is certainly priced right compared to the competition and Curt has a very good reputation. However there is no where near the advertised 10 degrees of right left tilt that is advertised for this unit, more like 7 degrees TOTAL, 3-4 to each side of center. I really expected 10 degrees either way off center, silly me, I am old enough to know that advertisers will take every liberty they can! It probably will do OK, but I am keeping a real close Eye on it when we go off road on BLM land dry camping.I like the good substantial chunk of steel that goes across the opening to lock the king pin in place, and it works quite smoothly. It is also very easy to tell when the unit is locked up and secure because that big old bolt is either in place or not. To make it even more visible I painted it white. What I do not like is that there was a shy 1/4" engagement on the one side of the bolt when in the locked position, I would have returned the unit for this "defect" but I needed it in a hurry to bring our new 5th wheel home so I just relocated the stop so that I had 1/2" of engagement. I think this is probably a factory tolerance thing but it is something I would keep an eye out for. Finally I was also a bit surprised that the handle has no lock in the engaged position but is free to swing around at random. I have a flat bed and it would be real easy for some joker to walk by and disengage the 5th wheel with a simple pull and twist. The handle then would fall into the down position fooling you into thinking it was engaged when it was not. Might not happen often, but once would be way to many times. I also fabricated a lock for my unit to keep it securely locked when it is hooked up. Probably would have added all of $2 to the factory cost. I know I probably voided my warrantee with all these modifications, but hey, if they built the darn thing correctly in the first place I would not have to be re-building it would I?

Rock solid, easy to use

Purchased the Curt 16115 to use in a truck that already had the universal rail installed. The unit assembled easily with the instructions being clear and unambiguous. Mounted to the existing rail without any fuss. Have used it with a 12K fifth wheel a couple of times, and found hitching up to be very straight-forward and easy. Have had another brand of fifth wheel hitch in the past, which wasn't nearly as easy to set and release. When it arrived, the box had been damaged and taped up. Don't know if that occurred during shipping to me, or if the seller had taped up the packing prior to shipping, but all parts were present and undamaged. Overall I would consider the Curt 16115 fifth wheel hitch to be an outstanding value for its price.

This is terrific buy. The quality is excellent and the difference between the Curt and Reese is negligible. In fact the Curt is rated higher in towing weight and the locking system is better. The locking bar is spring loaded and held in place buy a bar that retracts as you slide into the head. When the king pin is the proper distance into the hitch the locking bar automatically springs into the locking position so you know you are in the proper position. You don't even have to leave your truck. The same goes for disconnecting. If you are not in the proper position to release, the bar won't open. When your king pin is truly free from the head and bar the locking bar handles pulls very easily and locks into the open the position. This by far is super easy to use and align. If you want to remove the head it is easy. The base and head are separate pieces so you can take them apart with just a pull of 2 pins. Cuts the weight and bulkiness in half so one person can easily remove or install the unit. Why pay more for 15K when you can get 16K for less and have equal quality if not better than the more expense heads out there. These heads will also fit any competitors rail system that are built to industry standards.
